The group rode well together onto the Ligurian Coast and held a steady lead along the coast.

Over the Capo Berta (250 km / 282 km), the lead group was reduced to seven riders. (Maino) with Alfredo Binda (Legnano) driving a hard pace.

Misfortune hit the breakaway 25 km from the finish when Binda and his teammate Rafaele Di Paco crashed heavily and lost contact with leaders.

At the finish in San Remo five riders battled for position in the sprint. Maino’s Learco Guerra left no doubt sprinting past defending M-SR champion Alfredo Bovet and Pietro Rimoldi for the prestigious victory.

SPECIAL NOTE: 40-year-old Costante Girardengo, 6-time winner of Milan-San Remo, sprinted in for 11th place.
